Free, open-source Chrome extension for full-page screenshots

I built OpenScreenShot because every screenshot extension I tried eventually asked me to sign up, watch an ad, or trust that my captures weren't being uploaded somewhere. For a tool that literally sees everything on your screen, that never sat right with me.
The important part: zero data leaves your device. No account, no telemetry, no third-party servers. It's fully open source (MIT) — you can read every line, and contributions are welcome.
It's free, and it stays free.
Would genuinely love your feedback — what's the one feature that would make this your default screenshot tool?
📄 Full-page capture — scrolls and stitches long pages top to bottom, including apps that scroll an inner panel (Gmail, Notion, chat apps)
👁 Visible area and ✂️ region capture
✏️ Annotate — arrows, text, shapes, crop — right after you capture
📤 Export as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF, or copy straight to clipboard (Cmd/Ctrl+C)
🐛 Bug reporting & QA
Capture exactly what went wrong and annotate it before sharing.
Example:
Capture an entire checkout flow, circle the broken button, blur customer information, attach to a Jira ticket.
🎨 Design reviews
Perfect for designers and product teams reviewing UI changes.
📚 Documentation
Create clean documentation for internal wikis or user guides.
Example:
Internal onboarding guides with screenshots of every step.
💼 Client communication
Instead of describing problems in email:
This reduces back-and-forth significantly.
🔍 Research & competitive analysis
Save websites as visual references.
Examples:
Since it captures the entire page, you don't need multiple screenshots. Full-page capture is particularly useful for preserving a page's state for later comparison.
📝 Education & tutorials
Teachers and content creators can:
🔒 Privacy-sensitive work
One of its biggest differentiators.
Because processing happens locally:
never leave your machine during capture or editing.
📄 Compliance & record keeping
Useful when you need evidence of what a webpage looked like.
Examples:
PDF export makes archiving straightforward.
📢 Marketing & social content
Capture webpages and polish them before sharing.

very good product and amazing
Editor at PaperCheck. Everything I publish is checked against Turnitin's own documentation and real reports, not guesswork.
The local-only processing is the strongest differentiator here, especially for QA teams capturing dashboards with customer data. How does full-page capture handle virtualized lists or pages that lazy-load content while scrolling? An option to show which elements were skipped would make privacy-sensitive bug reports even more trustworthy.
Was doing a batch of directory submissions this week and needed clean full-page captures at exact sizes. Does it let you set a fixed viewport like 1920x1080 before capturing? Open source is a big plus, will try it.
Отличный сайт! Кайф!
Love the privacy-first approach and the fact that everything stays on the device. The built-in annotation tools also make this feel much more complete than a basic screenshot extension. A batch mode for capturing multiple URLs with the same settings and automatic file naming would be a great addition for documentation and product research. Great work!
Pinterest Videolarını Hızlı ve Ücretsiz İndirin
Looks like a great privacy-focused tool! I often take full-page screenshots while creating tutorials and content for my website, Pinterest Video İndirici, so a fast, open-source extension like this would be really useful. Wishing you all the best with the launch! 🚀
Social Media Management Tool
A simple yet incredibly useful tool! The clean interface makes capturing and sharing screenshots quick and hassle-free.

The privacy friction here is genuinely compelling. Most screenshot tools still make people nervous because they either require an account, send data to servers, or embed tracking pixels. The traditional path means either using proprietary tools from Microsoft or Chrome, accepting that your private dashboards are being monitored somewhere. OpenScreenShot removes that friction entirely by being completely local - no accounts, no cloud, no telemetry. Being able to capture sensitive financial reports, internal dashboards, or customer records knowing that everything stays on your machine transforms the trust equation from "maybe" to complete peace of mind. For compliance teams, healthcare professionals, and anyone capturing confidential data, that guarantee of zero server contact is what changes the game from worried to confident.
This is exactly what I need.
The "zero data leaves your device" angle is what sold me — for screenshot tools that's rarely verifiable, so MIT-licensing it is the right move. Question: how do you handle lazy-loaded images during full-page scroll capture? I've been scripting WKWebView for batch page renders and found waiting for network-idle isn't enough for below-the-fold content. Curious if you inject scroll events and re-wait, or snapshot viewport-by-viewport.
That's great and chrome extension are becoming something nowadays

this seems interesting. gonna give it a try
going to give a try but looks like a great tool
i think i'll try this out
Great contribution! I hope it helps many more people.
I like that this combines full-page capture, annotations, and multiple export formats into a single extension instead of requiring several different tools. The PDF export and region capture features look particularly useful for creating tutorials, bug reports, and documentation. Looking forward to trying it in my daily workflow.
Wanted something like this a lot in my time as a student in university. I'd either use the default pc screenshot feature or at worst, my mobile camera
Seems interesting. Definitely trying it
